Portrait of Christina Morales

Christina Morales

I’m currently on assignment reporting on the lives of Latinos in the United States, reflecting a range of experiences from recent immigrants to second-generation Latino Americans navigating dual identities.

Outside of my current assignment, I am a food reporter covering the trends, dishes, tools and ingredients of home cooks, with a focus on the role of social media in cooking. I also sometimes report on the restaurant industry. Much of my coverage is about Latin American food and restaurants.

I started at The Times in 2020 as a breaking news reporter in the company’s early career fellowship program. I’ve covered the coronavirus pandemic, hurricanes and the 2020 presidential election. I was also on teams that covered the condo collapse in Surfside, Fla., the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, and the murder of a U.S. Army soldier at Fort Hood, Texas.

Before joining The Times, I reported on local governments at the Miami Herald. I also covered breaking news and immigration at The Oregonian and wrote for the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. I graduated from the University of Florida, where I was editor in chief of the student newspaper, The Independent Florida Alligator.

I was born and raised in Miami to Cuban parents and grandparents, who taught me how to speak Spanish.

All Times journalists are committed to upholding the standards of integrity outlined in our Ethical Journalism Handbook.
