I use data and visuals, like charts, maps, diagrams and animations, to help readers understand complex stories within a range of topics. In the past I have covered business and technology, the Covid pandemic and elections, and recently have been focusing on stories about New York City, where I am based.
I have been a visual journalist for more than a decade. I got my start as an intern at The Times in 2013, after earning a master’s degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism that same year. Since rejoining The Times in 2017, I have covered several elections and the rise of artificial intelligence, and I was part of the team whose coverage of the Covid pandemic won the 2021 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service.
All Times journalists are committed to upholding the standards of integrity outlined in our Ethical Journalism Handbook. Like other reporters at The Times, I do not accept gifts or favors from anyone who might figure into my reporting, and I do not make political donations. When working with data, I carefully check the methodology used to create it and ask questions about its possible flaws and anomalies, to make sure it is up to the standards of The Times. When I am working, I always identify myself as a reporter for The Times.
